“Journalism and Communication Education in the Context of Media Convergence” 3rd International Forum for Yuelu Media and Culture Development Call for Papers

Media convergence has become an inexorable trend of media industry development. Media convergence has enormously transformed the concept, business format, model, method, platform and mechanism of journalism and communication (JC). An all media era is approaching. In this great revolution, journalism and communication education (JCE) is faced with a series of new problems and challenges. In the context of media convergence, these include: constructing the JC discipline; repositioning the cultivation model of JC talents; designing and implementing teaching systems and practical activities of JC majors in higher education; serving the economic and social development of a country through JCE; coping with the opportunities and dilemmas in global communication; and, enhancing academic and critical awareness to manifest communication freedom and media responsibilities in the context of global communication. In terms of these problems, practices of JCE in many countries and regions have initiated effective explorations and responses. To enhance the communication of academic research outcome and experiences of teaching practices, the School of Journalism and Communication & Television Arts at Hunan University and the Missouri School of Journalism at the University of Missouri are to jointly organize the 3rd International Forum for Yuelu Media and Culture Development, which will be held on 1st-3rd November 2019 in Changsha, China.

We sincerely invite both domestic and international academics in journalism, communication, and education, and experts in industry to attend this forum, to facilitate the achievement of JCE development.

The details of the forum are as below:

Forum Theme:

The forum theme is “Journalism and Communication Education in the Context of Media Convergence” and the organizers encourage submissions that approach this theme from a variety of perspectives. However, the submission of other related topics for consideration is welcome.

Forum topics include but not limited to the following:

Experiences concerning responses of JCE to media technology revolution

Talent cultivation of JC major in the context of media convergence

Discipline construction of JC in the context of media convergence

Course design and construction of JC major in the context of media convergence

Practical teaching of JC majors in the context of media convergence

Teaching platform development of JC major in the context of media convergence

Teaching staff construction of JC major in the context of media convergence

Research on JCE and teaching in the context of media convergence

Prospects of JCE in the context of media convergence

Important Dates

Abstract Submission Deadline: June 1, 2019

Full Paper Submission Deadline: August 10, 2019

Acceptance of the paper and the forum invitation letter will be sent to authors on August 30, 2019 by the forum committee. Full papers will go through a further step of peer review and will be eligible for publication.

Submission Requirements

Please send the abstract with the attached receipt document to hnuxyy@qq.com. English abstract should be 500 words in length. Please name the title of the abstract document and the email as “3rd International Forum for Yuelu Media and Culture Development + Your Name + Your Contact”.

Papers submitted to this forum should not be published by other conferences, proceedings or journals.

Papers should be concise, supported by clear arguments, reliable data and high-quality graphs, and formatted as required.

A typical paper should be no more than 8,000 words inclusive of a 250-word abstract, tables, references, figure captions, endnotes. Please also include 3-5 keywords.

Please prepare a PowerPoint for presentation.

Formatting Requirements

Font: Times New Roman, 12-point, double-line spaced. Use margins of at least 2.5 cm (or 1 inch).

Title: Use bold for your article title, with an initial capital letter for any proper nouns.

Abstract: Indicate the abstract paragraph with a heading.

Headings: Please indicate the level of the section headings in your article:

First-level headings (e.g. Introduction, Conclusion) should be in bold, with an initial capital letter for any proper nouns.

Second-level headings should be in bold italics, with an initial capital letter for any proper nouns.

Third-level headings should be in italics, with an initial capital letter for any proper nouns.

Fourth-level headings should be in bold italics, at the beginning of a paragraph. The text follows immediately after a full stop (full point) or other punctuation mark.

Fifth-level headings should be in italics, at the beginning of a paragraph. The text follows immediately after a full stop (full point) or other punctuation mark.

Figures: Figures should be high quality (1200 dpi for line art, 600 dpi for grayscale and 300 dpi for colour, at the correct size). Figures should be supplied in one of these file formats: EPS, PS, JPEG, GIF, or Microsoft Word (DOC or DOCX).

Tables: Tables should present new information rather than duplicating what is in the text. Please supply editable files.

References: Please use APA reference style for referencing.

Funding details: Please supply all details required by your funding and grant-awarding bodies in your manuscript.

Author information: Please include the title of your paper, names, affiliations, professional titles and positions, postcodes, emails, and phone numbers of all authors on the cover page.

Manuscripts should be submitted in Word format to the designated email address. Manuscripts will not be returned. Please make sure you have made a copy of your original manuscript.
